Sewing on the edge of reason

If danger is your middle name and you enjoy things like medieval torture techniques, UFC fights, and crossword puzzles, have I got the sewing pattern for you!

Above are the pattern pieces for John Galliano's Pirate Jacket. And here is the link to the pattern pdf. Through a series of links, I came across this pattern. As you can imagine, I was very excited to get a glimpse into the mind of such a uniquely gifted designer. That glimpse... scared me! However, after giving myself a pep talk and checking out the gallery of other sewers that conquered the beast, I just may give it shot.... Oh who am I kidding, I'm totally not. Seriously, where's the front bodice? But if some brave reader out there should decide to embark on the journey and live to tell... you're my hero!

Rock on!

The Road to California Quilt Show

Rather than write about how beautiful all of the quilts were at The Road to California Quilt Show, I thought it best to show you.

Untamed Splendor by Gina Perkes

Dessert Bloom by Monica Troy

Windfall by Carol Taylor

Look What I Caught by Laurie Britt.  Laurie Britt is new to quilting. As in 2 years new.  Amazing!  The technique used was raw edge applique.

A close up of the cute little fairy on the dragon's tail.

Spring Break by Joanell Connolly

Flower Garden by Lynn Woll

This quilt is called Cigar Quilt, and it's from the 1890's.  I thought of Jodi from Vintage Ric Rac and her beautiful selvedge dress.  I think she would appreciate this quilt.

Another highlight of the show was the array of vendors.  One particular vendor, Bird Brain Designs, carried a wide assortment of wool roving and needle felting supplies.  I have been on the look out for needle felting supplies every since I viewed Yu Yu Art's Cutie Girls.  Aren't they cute?!  She has an etsy shop too.  Up until Yu Yu Art came along, I have never had the slightest itch to start needle felting, and now I feel as though I have a serious case of needle felting poison ivy.

Don't be afraid

My mom forwarded me these pics. The email was titled The latest craze in Japan. I know what you're thinking " too bad they don't come in purple." I thought the exact same thing. I have no idea who the designer is, but I wish did. If you happen to have a pair in your closet could you check who the designer is? She, or he, deserves some serious props for the engineering skills used to design such a marvel. Seriously, it is pretty awesome that the designer did take a big risk in these shoe designs. This is definitely Project Runway "out of the box" type of thinking. I appreciate and admire that.
Having said that, I do believe the model is taking a bigger life threatening risk in wearing the shoes. I would be curious to see the full pic. I imagine the model holding on to a rope or pole with beads of sweet pouring down from her pained expression face. All the while her feet look ever so graceful.
