Uncomfortable, but necessary.

Coming out of my cage
Note: Part of the paper cut is not showing. If you want to see the entire cut click on the picture.

I finished this paper cut last night. I showed my husband this morning and he said "You have got to get some sleep." I've been staying up late at night doing all sorts of crafty things and surfing the Internet. I turn on my Pandora music and start creating. The next thing I know it's 2:AM!

I think this quote by Helen Keller sums up the metaphoric meaning of the paper cut. "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. Security does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger in the long run is no safer than exposure." The cage represents avoidance. For example; avoiding people, avoiding risk, avoiding rejection, avoiding anything that is uncomfortable. The little bird in the paper cut has finally stopped avoiding danger and has left her safe & familiar cage. In turn, she has made a friend.

It's always challenging to step out of my comfort zone, however I find staying in the cage can become stale and colorless.

Very pretty. And since I've been hermiting myself away in my place for the last little while, very timely as well.
