A fabric giveaway hooray!

9/25/09 - Hello everyone! The giveaway is now closed. I will announce the winners on Monday. See you then =)

How about a Phat Fabric giveaway? It's been much too long since my last giveaway, so to make up for lost time there will be 3 winners randomly selected for this giveaway.

The details...
This giveaway is for 1 yard of any fabric at Phatfabric.com. International friends are welcome to enter.
3 winners will be randomly selected via a random number generator.

How to enter...
Leave a comment with the fabric of your choice AND (there's always an and) answer the following question: What do you think about the the trend of brightly colored tights worn with skirts and dresses? I'm 50/50. I like them on other people, but on me they add about 5 pounds and make me look like one of the munchkins from The Wizard of Oz. I find myself resisting the urge to sing The Lollipop Guild Song when I wear them. I should stay away from horizontal stripes shouldn't I?

Anywhoo... the giveaway will close on Friday the 25th of September 2009. I will announce the winners on the following Monday.

3, 2, 1, let the giveaway begin!

Jamie

The giveaway is now closed. The winners will be announced on Monday. Happy weekend to all!

I really like the Lecien Folklore Birds in Orange. As far as the tights - yeah, not so sure about that. I'm sure there are women that can get away with it, but I would say on most women, it would not be a flattering look.

Lindsey said...

I love Micheal Millers Funky Christmas print, they always put out good Christmas prints. As to the tights deal, I don't know. I think my 5 year old would look just precious. But I'm afraid I would look just sad.

Ellena said...

The Birds have it, I love all fabrics with bird prints, I really, really like Tiger on the Flower natural, the colors are just right.
The tights, lovely, if I were 12-20something years old, but alas that was a while back.

Anita said...

I love the canyon flutter, it so colorful and happy. I too like the bright colored tights on other people but they wouldn't do my legs any favors.

Brit said...

First of all I love your blog! You are very talented and very inspiring. Second of all I love the Fuccra Rakuen blue ~ Nani Iro Japanese fabric. And third of all I like the colored tights on other people but would never try it myself because if I bought them I'd only wear them once and constantly think about how fat my legs look in them. But that's just me. Keep it up!

Beth Whitney said...

Love your blog-it always makes me smile!

I love the Fuccra Rakuen natural fabric-so pretty!

Tights-not for me, like you said. So cute on other peeps, and kids too!

frutejuce said...

Birdsong fabric, although any of those fabrics are delicious.

I am 0/100 on bright tights with skirts for me. No way, at all, ever. I only wear black anything and never tights.
But for others I am 100% on! I love the look of bright tights on others, if I had even half way nice legs I would be wearing as bright as I could get!

bellweather said...

I absolutely adore the Fuccra Rakuen blue. So pretty, I might just frame it. As to the colored tights, I do like them, but unfortunately I think that look can only be pulled off by young, slim women. Although I will always root for anyone's right to wear whatever makes them happy! Thanks for the giveaway, and good luck!

Sahmy said...

I love the Rosie Dot Yellow.

I like the trend for my daughters, not so much or me.

Anonymous said...

So many beautiful fabrics! I think I would choose pet deer by Michael Miller. About the colorful tights, I say yes!! But mostly for children and skinny people, sadly that leaves me out ; )

Jennifer Ladd said...

I love Fuccra Rakuen aqua ~ Nani Iro Japanese fabric. I've had my eye on that for a while.

I do like the trend. Mainly becuase my two-year-old girl looks a-d-o-r-a-b-l-e in it! Like such a little doll. For me, though, it does NOT work. I'm too lanky to pull it off, and it just looks freakish. :)

My fabric pick would be Spotted Owl natural ~ Alexander Henry! :D As far as tights go, I think they are weird!! Nothing like neon purple tights under REALLY short shorts! It makes me wonder what the real purpose of them is though. I think it tends to draw the eye down "there." Just my two cents. :D

Barb said...

Thanks for a great give-away! I love Quarter Dot ~ Aqua ~ Michael Miller fabric. I'm a little slow to the "raqua" trend but I'd love to make a little red and aqua quilt and this would be a great start!

I'm with you on the coloured tights though. I LOVE the look on other people but I just can't seem to pull it off!

Megan said...

HI!! Thanks for the giveaway!! I love your site!! My favorite fabric from your shop and one that I have been pining over is Canyon Flutter by Alexander Henry! and I am definitely with you on the colored tights trend...I love it on other people but I just can't seem to get it right on myself. I would really like to pull it of with a bold, graphic print dress and some sweet shoes...but it just doesn't happen!!

Sharaze Colley said...

I've been eyeballing a couple fabrics...the one I'm really wanting is the Leaf Black Echino Chelsea because I think it'd make an awesome gift for one of my best friends!

As far as the leggings--I think it can be really cute. I'd only do it with the perfect skirt and very high heels (I have some cute mary jane heels) because I don't have long legs but I've seen it look adorable on all kinds of people. I think the trick is to wear it like you mean it--with confidence, haha.

Noriko said...

how wonderful !! I would choose the Home Sewing Is Easy fabric by Alexander Henry. I love his fabrics but I've never had this kind of fabrics(^_^) I love to wear tights under skirts and dress but don't like too brightly and colourful. it always makes me fashionable! thank you

Mary said...

I loved reading everyones answer to the colored tights question :) It seems as though it is unanimous. Not for me either!

I also had so much fun perusing the Phatfabric website. I had trouble choosing, but I love the Rosie Dot yellow ~ Darla fabric by Tanya Whelan.

Thanks for the wonderful chance to win!

Anonymous said...

Echino Chelsea fabric - Leaf mint green - Etsuko Furuya is my favorite, in fact I may never make anything out of this since I don't yet own a sewing machine.... Maybe I would just look at it forever instead. LOL

As for the tights, well.... I was in Jr. High and H.S. in the late 60's early 70's and bright colors were the rage I think if a person thinks they look good enough and wants to have fun and draw attention to themselves then they should go for it. At my age I would probably now opt for black.... but you young gals need to take advantage of the years when you can have fun with colored tights,,, so GO FOR IT!

Di

Fuccra Rakuen in Aqua is so pretty. Your sight's also really nice! I've not been here before and now I will look forward to my first order.

Colored tights with anything...well I think that 1992 is calling and they want them back.

It didn't look good then, and it doesn't look good now.

Unless your under the age of 8 that is.

arstreeter said...

Oh my. Azucar in spice!

I like the bold prints but they are relegated to accessories for me.

Jessica D. said...

Cobweb yellow is just super awesome, love the design and the shade.

So I think some people can pull off that look, I for one can not, well I've never tried, but I'm sure I can't, no need to try. Power to the ladies that try it though, even if they don't pull if off.

Sheena and Brian's Family said...

LOVE scene in natural by Etsuko Furuya. :)

And, I'd have to say, little girls look precious in the colored tights, and some women can pull it off, but not myself. Personally I don't want anything to accentuate my calves- haha! ;) Thanks for the chance to win the giveaway!

nursemom said...

Love the tunic with leggings look...but not on me. I'd look like I was dressed for Halloween! At least I can live vicariously through my 5 year old, who looks great in them!
Got my eye on Trailing Cherry in brown by Amy Butler for the Lotus Tunic Cami Dress with sleeves! (No tights!)

Megan V said...

I love the "Home Sewing is Easy" fabric!!! LOVE.

And brightly colored tights? LOVE also! I have been obsessed with the look of deep red opaque tights for fall!!! It can look really sophisticated and put together with the right styling!!

marisa said...

I like the canyon flutter alot. As for the tights? I love bright and retro looks and that's what it reminds me of. I'm all for it!

Tricia said...

Nani Iro knocks me dead. The Fuccra Rakuen in blue? Blammo. I'm out cold. Love it.

And I love colored tights! What? You say they add five pounds? Lalalalala can't hear you!

Jenny said...

I Love amy butler's lacework in Olive print...such a lovely print. I am no longer in my 20's and no longer have my athletic legs...I would NOT be wearing colored tights myself. Just not for me. Quite honestly, it takes alot to even get me in a skirt. So I would vote no for tights.
Thanks for the chance!

I love Etsuko Furuya's fabrics, especially the scene in lavender print.

As far as the tights go, I'm torn. I think they can look really cute on the right person, I just rarely see them on the right person. : )

Heidi said...

Picnic Damask red -

I think the colored tights are really fun. I guess I always like it when style shifts to the super colorful OZ style!

Sarah G said...

Hands down. Girly and bitter!

I love the tights look, just not the neon ones. A dark shade even with a little print looks awesome on most people with a tunic or dress. Maybe not with the miniskirt type, but something more flowy so it doesn't hug curves.

Love your blog!!!

trash said...

I really hope they work on everyone as I bought a jade pair and a deep red pair a few weeks back!

As to the fabric I scrolled down through everything and despite being tempted by the Lecien folklore birds I am remaining true to my first thought which is Canyon Flutter by Alexander Henry.

Anonymous said...

Hi!Wow! Thanks for the give-away!
I love Treetop by Alexander Henry... too cute...
About the tights. I love them. always have.

angie said...

I love the Best friend in passion fabric. That combination of colors are great.

About the legging not too much for me I have kind of big thighs for my size so I would just look bigger. I do have 2 girls and they love them..I'll have them be in style.

Susana said...

Oh, choosing, what a bother! After much handwringing, it's Fuccra Rakuen blue, which is goooorgeous. As opposed to all the others I might choose, which are gooorgeous.
I'm with you on the munchkin thing; I'm only five feet, so child-like doesn't really suit me, it's all unironic on me. Plus, I don't think I should be calling attention to my short legs.
If I really was a long, tall sophisticate other than in dreams, though, I'd gobble them up.
Thanks for the giveaway!

Hi Jamie,

What a generous giveaway!

With regards to the tights... been there didn't do it back in the 80's either. Never really liked the style and was opinion was even more enforced when I saw other people wearing them that really shouldn't be wearing them... if you know what I mean.

As for the fabrics, there are so make great prints, but I think my favourite would be Paula Prass' Centrepiece in Grey

Sarah Longwell said...

I am sort of against the bright tights thing. I agree that it looks cute on someone with cute legs, but that someone is not me, so why should people with cute legs get to have even more fun than me? Just kidding. It's cute, I just can't do it.

It's almost too hard to choose just one of these fabrics, but I think Tile Mosaic ~ Lantern Bloom fabric collection ~ Laura Gunn is what I need to finish this quilt for my boys' room.

Anonymous said...

Centerpiece in Aqua...or maybe Eiffel Tower...so many pretty fabrics to choose from!
I would vote no for colored tights. I live in jeans for the most part, but I just don't need to draw that much attention to my legs! Thanks for the giveaway.

Well, my first instinct was to choose the Folklore Trees & Birds in Natural, but I saw that was out of stock. My next choice is Scattered Lantern Pods by Laura Gunn (but it was so hard to choose! I want them all!!).

As for colored tights with skirts, I say YES! I realize I'm in the minority here, but I like them. I wear skirts pretty much all the time. I've got dark tights and bright tights, but my absolute favorite with skirts is brightly colored and patterned knee socks. :)

mommymae said...

i love the Pocho yellow - Nani Iro Japanese fabric or grey!.

a dress made out of either of these would be perfect over my bright blue tights. i say yes to bright tights.

Nova said...

I like this one: Scene in natural ~ Echino fabric by Etsuko Furuya.

Like most fashion trends, it only looks good on certain people. (See: Disturbingly Skinny Models) Also,I believe it has been established horizontal stripes make one look like the Cheshire Cat, if one has any body fat (*raises hand*).

PS: Have you seen this?

Oh-I really like the "Sewing is Easy" fabric-I probably wouldn't buy it, but I'd love to own it (If that makes sense!)
As for the tights under a dress-I think it's a really cute "young" look and my granddaughters look adorable. I'm not so sure about seeing it on an adult though! Just IMHO!

I have to admit that I would love a yard of the Celery Kona cotton. Thanks for the fabulous giveaway.

kathytypestoo said...

Yeah for giveaways! I really love the Climbing Lantern Pods. That fabric is haunting to me in some way.
I love the idea of tights under dresses for the warmth, but not sure about the look (on me) and the static cling!

Becky said...

I would definitely choose Canyon Flutter ~ Alexander Henry fabric.

And for the tights: I figure if like the look and can pull it off with the right outfit then by all means, do it!

Anonymous said...

Hi Jamie
I love tights worn with dress or skirt - and brightly colored?? Everything should be brightly colored in my point of view!!! ;)
BUT (and I guess there´s often a but too) unfortunately I do not have the legs for tights and it´s unpractical wearing dresses and skirts for me as a wheelchair driver.
I would go for Henry´s Canyon Flutter :)

Digital Misfit said...

The Asuka Kokka fabric ~ Girly and Bitter ~ Nina's Sewing Factory natural is such a beautiful fabric! I have never seen it before, but I am in love!

Re: the colored tights - young and skinny only, I think. I know I would look ridiculous in colored tights. They look fun on the under-25 set though.

heidig@gmail.com

Deborah Bosket said...

I really like Alexander Henry Kiko, but also any of the Etsuko Furuya fabric.

I'm not sure about wearing bright tights. I think it's OK on a case by case basis :)

Andrea @ Knitty Bitties said...

I think I would pick 'Scene in lavender ~ Echino Japanese fabric by Etsuko Furuya' ... how cute would this look using your Honey Girl dress.

Bright colored tights? Hmm, I think it could be pulled off if the rest of the outfit was pretty muted with maybe just another splash of color in a scarf or accessory.

Lavina Dee said...

Fabric: I love Orange Folklore Birds from the Lecien My Folklore collection.
Now the tights: My bestfriend says I dress like her mother and she does not mean that as a compliment. That said, I cannot endorse any fashion choice in which grown women dress like kindergardners. There I said it.

Well, the secretary at my local primary school is about 60 and tries to dress as someone much younger. Last year her coloured tights were unbelieveable. This has put me completely off the look . . . pity but she looked horrendous. . . the mustard and lime green tights were the worst.
Love the site.

Super fabrics expecially Canyon Flutter ~ Alexander Henry fabric . . . simple and sweet

I do believe I like the
Azucar in spice ~ Alexander Henry fabric best. The colors are magnificent, and my daughter would love it!

As for bright tights worn with skirts...I live in Florida. It makes me sweat.

Marianne said...

I love your shop! Now, as for fav, Im thinking Nani Iro. It is gorgeous on my monitor, must be really gorgeous in person.
Bright tights, I see them only to a certain age. Since I am post menopausal and in a hot climate...I say NO Way!

Kelsy Alsup said...

Nosegay in White- Paula Prass fabric.

I love the colored tights! bright colors with a simple solid dress or top, so vibrant and really shows confidence. pair it with some booties, and a fun headband, you are SET!!!

Liz B. said...

I'd like the Canyon Flutter by Alexander Henry. There are lots of gorgeous fabrics but I think I'd be most likely to USE this one :) As for your question, I tend to agree with you. The models and celebrities with long skinny legs can pull the look off, but 5 foot tall me? Not quite. And I have good legs, too, but chopping myself into horizontal blocks does nothing for my height.

Shannon R said...

Wow, for a chance. I love the Nosegay in White ~ Paula Prass fabric.

As far as colored tights go. I think they look okay on others, but I just haven't been brave enough to try. I love your comparison to the Lollipop guild though. Now I'm not sure if I'll ever try. ;)

Poe Lane said...

I let my daughter pick this one... she LOVES Cobweb black. So heres to hoping we win!

I like the capri tights under skirts and dresses. Any color. Now the bright color hose, skirts, and high heels I don't like. Now if you are super tall and skinny I think you can pull it off but if you are short and insulated in the middle like me... it's a no go.

Jennifer said...

Pocho gray ~ Nani Iro Japanese fabric. I really want to make your Anthro scarf.

As for me, I love the look of the bright tights with neutrals. But, I think I'm too petite and curvy for it. But, have you seen the neon ankle socks with booties on J Crew? Now that's a look I might try.

Hope I win!

Di~ said...

I would go with Kona Cotton in the Robin Egg color. But everything is lovely. No tights for me, thanks anyway, for others yes, with calf definition. Thanks for the chance to win some lovely fabric!

Jenn W, said...

Alexander Henry - Owls on Natural.

I'm firmly in the NO category for bright tights on anyone over 10 years old. However a pair of hand knit socks with and Mary Janes are darling on all ages.

Sue Cahill said...

I would select Paula Prass - Nosegay in White - lovely!!

I think my grandaghters aged 4 and 11 look really cute in tights but there is no way I could even come close to pulling off that llok, that ship sailed long, long ago.

thank you for the opportunity!

First, I would choose Nani Iro by Naomi Ito. Secondly, I love the colorful tights on children and depending on the style, maybe on very young adults. Not for me! I hope I win...this time!

April O. said...

How awesome! Thank you for making the giveaway possible. :)

Okay, because I LOVE my daughter and we have begun the journey of crafting together, I would pick the Canyon Flutter ~ Alexander Henry fabric.

And the tights. Oh hmm. I don't know. I think that they are most suited for little girls who can pretty much wear anything and look fabulous.

Thanks again!

annasoc said...

I love the Calaveras de Color by Alexander Henry. The sugar skulls are so pretty.

And I like brightly colored tights, as long as the tights are all black! My legs are no flattered by colored tights. Other people, maybe.

jamie said...

Echino Bird and Berry

And I am not sure how I feel about the bright leggings... More inclined toward black or brown, I think.

Deborah A said...

Well to address the question first - personally I think leggings are meant for little girls not big girls. I have a couple of favourite fabrics. Fuccra Rakuen natural (sadly sold out) and Fuccra Rakuen in Aqua. These are both beautiful fabrics and I can see many things created with them.

pinkchook said...

echino chealsea in black, on the leggings a definate no for me others yes but i think there is an age limit otherwise you end up with mutton drssed as lamb, and thats never a good look.

Bethany said...

I love wearing tights with skirts and dresses! Most of my wardrobe is navy and brown, so I love wearing bright accessories, especially tights, in pinks, greens and bright blues to brighten my outfits and make them "pop" a little.

I would pick Rosie Dot blue-I love old fashioned prints!

Camelia Crinoline said...

I would pick Picnic Rose Blue. I love florals.
I really like brightly coloured tights, I wear them all the time with dresses and skirts. I adore the ones from We Love Colours.

Julia B. said...

Oh I would soooo love the Nani Iro Fuccra Rakuen Blue ! Its so awesome that any thing with a skirt or dress made of this fabric looks killer!

I love love love wearing black tights - colored tights can be tricky, a little too 80's child for me. Stick to black.

Thanks! You rock.

Jo said...

My pic would be the Zesty Zinnia by Michael Miller Fabric. I am making a quilt at the moment in black, white and red prints.

I love the coloured tights look, I haven't got any at the moment and we are going into Spring here, so maybe next year ......

Itchy feet said...

I love the Etsuko Furuya Cobweb in black!

With tights, I love wearing my purple tights with a short black polka dot dress. I reckon I should take advantage of being in my early 20s while I still can, because it'll probably look terrible on me soon enough. But I love tights, they're all brilliant. Especially flesh coloured fish net, which okay isn't a bright colour but is great in the summer! I used to love stripy socks when I was a teenager but they look a bit silly on me now so I need to get colour from somewhere.

Anonymous said...

How very exciting ...would love some Canyon Flutter fabric pretty please.

As for the stockings and little shorts and skirts; my 8 year old looks divine when she pulls her random outfits together but I think beyond teenage years most of us are unlikly to get away with it.

I love Centerpiece in Aqua...

I love the brightly colored tights on other people, but it's one of those looks that I just can't seem to pull off.

Oh, I'd pick Scene in lavender ~ Echino Japanese fabric by Etsuko Furuya!! I love love love it! So sweet and pretty.

I think brightly colored tights looks so adorable on little girls- as for me...I'm not a huge fan of tights- they remind me too much of pantyhose and THOSE are terrible things. :)

I love the pet deer fabric, but it's a pretty close between that and um... ANY of the japanese fabrics. :) Also, I love the tights and skirts/dresses trend. I'm currently 37 wks pregnant, and tights aren't appealing at all...but soon. :D

My favorite fabric choice (not just for Christmas themes but for pillows in my den!) is Joyful Damask ~ Funky Christmas fabric collection ~ Michael Miller. Love love it.
I am not a fan of the colored tights in any way shape or form. I too feel like they add pounds to my legs:( BUT I have an adorable friend who wears them and she is super cute and stylish. To each his own.

lahuitrefrite said...

I've been coveting the "Scene in Lavender" from Echino--but am just crazy about so many of the Japanese fabrics.

Re: colored stockings. Love'em. Have been wearing goofy stocking since I was in high school--brightly colored, oddly patterened. They make any outfit funky.

carrie said...

I really love Alexander Henry's Canyon Flutter. As far as the tights thing, oh how I wish I had the slender legs to wear a bright tight with my skirts. I don't but I think others look great in this look.

Dasha said...

I'd have to say that my most favorite fabric is Asuka Kokka fabric - Girly and Bitter - Nina's Sewing Factory. Still obsessing over the Honey girl dress made out of it. Anyways, as to your questions about the leggins... i would have to say that i'm not a fan of this trend. I'm 26 and i would never wear leggins, especially multi-colored ones. I keep that trend for my 5-year old girl. Although, i do have to admit that some women look super cute in them, it's just not for me.

Wendymoon said...

Oh, I LOVE Echino Chelsea, especially in Leaf black.

I think my fabric choice from you site would have to be Laura Gunn's Tile Mosaic. Love this print and i can think of so much to do with it!

What do you think about the the trend of brightly colored tights worn with skirts and dresses?
I would have to say that I like it. I think you definetly have to have the right body type for it. Very slender; just like when skinny jeans in bright colors were in, you had to have the little figure! I've come to terms that I can't wear them, but I really like! -Elyse

Just found your blog. Love it. Thanks for the fun giveaway. I like all Amy Bulter fabrics especially the "Trailing Cherry in brown". As for the tights, I'm 50/50 on it. I like it on people and only a few selected people can pull it off (aka the tall skinny legged people), but I'm with you. If I do it I look 10lbs heavier and it's just not me. But I love the concept.

My almost 6 year old has been beggin me to make her a bag or knot dress out of it but I dont yet have any. Perhaps I'll wait to see if I win it here bfore I buy some.:)

I don't like the tights under the dress thing for me. I think it looks ok if the dress is on the short side but over all I don't care for it. As for what fabric I would want...
I want a yard of the climbing lantern pods by Laura Gunn, if that is not available (I noticed it was out of stock) then I'll take the tile mosaic by her instead. I love love that fabric. Thanks for the give away

Ellen said...

I like bright tights when paired with a really simple solid color dress for example. It really reminds me of the 60s era and fashion then. As a young lady, I have been known to dawn bright solid pink or blue tights with a simple outfit or for going out in the past and really loved the vibrancy of it all! I think it can be a really fun look, especially with a solid color boot to bring down the shock value a little bit.

I love all of your fabrics I have ordered so far so I'm sure any one of them will be awesome. But my favorite is the Charleston Black and White- I think with a yard of this you could make something really awesome- maybe a mit for the kitchen or some pin cushions.

Heather said...

I love the pocho gray - Nani Iro.

I wasn't really into the colored tights until I saw someone wearing a simple black knit dress with purple tights, purple jewelry, and black boots. It wasn't goth and it wasn't gaudy - just fun. I went out and bought my own purple and black ensemble a week later and LOVE it. But I think I'll stick with solid colors. I'm pretty short and the horizontal ones would make me even shorter, plus I also have red hair and do not want to fashion myself as the next Pipi Longstocking! Thanks for the giveaway!

I love the Fuccra Rakuen natural ~ Nani Iro Japanese fabric.
As for the tights... I haven't seen many people wearing them, so I don't know, but it sure sounds like fun!

I love Folklore Trees & Birds natural from Lecien's My Folklore collection. It's lovely!!

As for the brightly colored tights. I can't do it. My daughter can, and does and I don't mind. It looks really good on her. If you can pull it off, I say "Go for it!"

leigh said...

Yippee for free fabric! As for the tights - I'm so out of it I haven't even seen this trend! But I can guarantee it would not look great on my legs.

Rubixcubey said...

Fuccra Rakuen in aqua!

I agree with many of the previous posts. I think colored tights really only work for supermodel figures coupled with couture-inspired outfits. But I also think people should just wear what makes them happy. =D

Fatboy :) said...

I like the way the colorful tights w/ dresses look on other people but it makes me look short and frumpy!

How could i ever just pick one!! They are all just amazing.
I think i have to pick Bird to Hang ~ Etsuko Furuya Echino fabric. soo pretty.

What a fun giveaway!

first, oh, I"m soooo in love with the black and white Charleston!!!

second, if I wore the bright tights, my granddaughters would think I was sooo cool, but the kids would not want me near them! So, I guess it depends on the age,,,AND the attitude!

Nicki C K said...

I love your blog and your shop too!!! YAY! I'm so excited! I would LOVE to have Birdsong in pink ~ Alexander Henry fabric! Thanks for the opportunity to win!!!
As for the bright tights....no no no! Maybe for my 5 year old but I don't think it looks attractive on adults. Yikes.

I love folklore trees and birds natural by lecien :)

Tights look nice with dresses, but I think the classic black looks best :)
Colors are for tweens perhaps?

I love the Echino Chelsea! Sooo pretty. As for the tights, I agree: very cute on others but sausage legs on me.

Marianne & Clayton said...

I love the Fuccra Rakuen blue by Nani Iro.
And the Picnic Rose blue Darla fabric by Tanya Whelan.
And about thirty others.

Love the tights with skirts look. In fact just bought some white and black striped tights to liven up my boring black stuff. Only, once home I found it makes me look like a clown. I agree with what everyone else is saying. It's probably best on super skinny legs, but I can't help myself! I love how fun it is!

Hi Jamie,
You make the most darling items! I love your sense of style. You have a fun, positive blog!

I love the fabric: Fuccra Rakuen blue ~ Nani Iro Japanese fabric. It is so happy! Everytime I see it I feel good!

I love the brightly colored tights under skirts and dresses. I started wearing them before they were trendy. I am 51 years old and I don't care if my legs look chubby in them! I wear them anyway!

Keep Sewing!

Favourite fabric.... Canyon Flutter ~ Alexander Henry fabric

As for bright coloured tights - they look great on my 3yo and 6yo... but not for me... I've been known to wear boring black, grey or navy ones...

Anonymous said...

My absolute favoutite: Canyon Flutter ~ Alexander Henry fabric.

Brightly colored tights? JUST LOVE THEM!

Morgan said...

I love the Climbing Lantern Pods/Lantern Bloom by Laura Gunn fabric! & I like brightly colored tights, although I don't wear them too much myself. That's mostly because I rarely wear dresses or skirts. I do NOT like those footless tights that are very in right now, though. Not at all.

Sam, Adrianna, Zoe, Penny, & June said...

Birdsong in Pink!

I too think they are great on other people, then tried it out for myself the other day (in the safe setting of Europe, so even if I looked like a chubby munchkin, nobody would notice since they all dress like that), and I loved it! No chubby munchkin syndrome at all, and I have the pictures to prove it. I say give it a go.

The Fam said...

Spotted Owl in green tea by Alexander Henry!

I could never pull off this look. I think you probably shouldn't wear this after the age of 30. The footless leggings/tights are much more forgiving.

Petit Design Co. said...

I like the calaveras fabric

As for the tights, they are not for me. I'm short and petite, so I try to stay away from anything that makes me look 12! They're great on my 3 year old though!

Ann and Sam said...

Fuccra Rakuen aqua ~ Nani Iro Japanese fabric. Just soooooo gorgeous.
Bright tights with skirts and dresses? Mmmmmmmm, not at my age, and not with my legs.

De Zuster Van said...

I think the "Spotted Owl natural" fabric is realy cool. I wish I could say the same about colored tights...

Sweetlove said...

Scene in lavender. I am okay with the bright tights as long as the dress is boring and the color of the tights is pretty. I do like them better on others than on me.

Sarah said...

My fabric choice would be Bird to Hang ~ Etsuko Furuya Echino fabric - there's just something about the color and pattern that I love.
AND I am also 50/50 on the brightly colored tights worn with skirts & dresses. I think you need to be very thin and/or "youthful" looking to pull it off. I am tempted to try it, but my husband thinks that style is ridiculous, and I agree with your opinion about the munchkin connotation!

The Gilmores said...

My fabric of choice is the Fuukei- Nani Iro Japanese Fabric. I think that if you feel confident in brightly colored tights with a skirt or dress then you can totally pull it off! Pulling an outfit off is in the way you carry yourself! I couldn't do it, but I think it looks fabulous on lots of people! Thanks for the opportunity to win this great fabric!!!

Nosegay in White ~ Paula Prass fabric
It's so pretty!

About the whole tights thing, it just depends. I would wear bright tights if I had the right color, the right dress, the right shoes. So, I'm 50/50 too.

I like Canyon flutter best, but I liked several others as well, including the Eiffel Tower fabric.
As far as the fashion question, I don't think I've seen anyone wearing such an outfit yet. I think that look would look cute on some, and silly on others (such as myself) :)

TrangEmi said...

Hi from Germany,
about the "brightly colored tights worn with skirts and dresses", I think if that would be wearable and bearable, depends on the go-along-outfit, style, color... But I can´t image, that oneday I would wear an such as outfit. I prefer bright but simple and elegant as the Pocho fabric

Unknown said...

Oh, I love the Darla Rose in fuchsia. Love it! I like the bright tights, but don't wear them. I'm more a black tights/red shoes or black tights/black boots kind of gal.

Ashlee said...

What a lovely giveaway! My favorite of the fabrics is Alexander Henry's Birdsong, although I love almost every one of the fabrics. I'm with you -- I love the look of the bright tights, but I wouldn't wear them myself unless a time machine takes me back about 15 years and 30 pounds!

beth said...

I love both Scattered Lantern Pods and Climbing Lantern Pods and would love to make a bag out of one or both! About tights.... I like the look on women who weigh about 95 pounds and that's not many women!!

Anonymous said...

wow! It would have to be one of Lecien's Folklore prints...either the birds or trees or the flowers. Beautiful stuff!
ABout the tights...NOT, I repeat NOT for me. I would look hideous:) But if you've got the right legs for it...got for it! We'll need all the bright coloured happiness of all the tights wearers once we hit fall/winter anyway:)

I like the Voodoo Skulls in black ~ Alexander Henry. Cool Skulls!
I love brightly colored tights!

I would like the Happy Dots in Gray by Amy Butler. I definitely would not wear bright tights, but they are cute on younger people than me.

Henrietta said...

Such a hard choice! I think I like the Zesty Zinnia fabric best, would make a gorgeous bag! As for the tights, love the look and would love to see them on my little girl, but on me YUCK! Thanks for the great giveaway!

I would LOVE the treetop fabric. What a cute design. And to answer the question about brightly colored tights. I know I could never get away with wearing them. My little girl could wear them and be adorable. Julie T.

Mandy said...

Ugh! I am with you on the Legging situation! They are ADORABLE on everyone else (wellllll sometimes) but on me....gag. I love all the fabrics! I do not have a particular style of fabric that I love more or less. :) Just stumbled on your blog today and I must say that I LOVE it!

shimby said...

Yummy, I love the poncho gray dot fabric. But if I win don't ship anything without me buying that Honey Girl pattern. I so love all your stuff!!!

As far as the bright tights, yuk, not for me. I think they would just make my legs look big. They are super cute on those younger skinnier gals with hot legs, tho...

Smiles,
Kristie H.

Opaque tights do tend to look better on other people...
But I do think they look good with boots!! Then you just get a flash of color.
I have turquoise ones that would look good with that Echino Chelsea Leaf fabric in black...

I love Centrepiece in Aqua - there's just something about paisley that lifts my heart! Unlike brightly coloured tights on my solid calved legs! Gorgeous on other people, not so much on me!

kg said...

Yay, fabric!! I am with you on the bright tights and skirts. I think it looks good on little girls, I have dreams of dressing my baby like that as soon as she's big enough, but for me, I don't see it. I'm too selfconscious. as far as my current favorite fabric, I've been dying to try the double gauze, the pocho grey, to be exact.

Crystal C Rutherford said...

What a fun giveaway! I love Centerpiece in Aqua (I have visions of using it for a cute [next]summer dress for my 5 year old)

hmm... I go back and forth on the tights. Youngsters (take that as you will lol) can pull them off, but I opt for more subdued colors...black, grey, teal, purple, etc No bright colors for me.. well... maybe a bright red, but certainly no neons.

Gina said...

Love the treetop by AH. As far as the tights, I love them on the 30 and younger crowd. Just can't get used to seeing a 50 year old in bright tights under a dress.

Unknown said...

Wow, wonderful giveaway!

I would choose Holiday on Ice in black...

And the tights thing... It's one of those things that is cute if you can pull it off - on me... the potential for disaster is incredibly HUGE. ^_^

Shelby said...

Hmm, i prefer the brightly colored tights on kids, and black/grey etc on myself.

My favorite fabric is Zesty Zinnea or Folklore Flowers natural. I couldn't choose!

carly k said...

I would have to say the Nani Iro Japanese fabrics are my fav. But, I do like a lot of the solids, too. Good solids can be hard to find.

As far as the tights. Love em with the right outfit and shoes. But no neon colors...

Cat said...

Lovely - too many delicious fabrics to choose from, but my top pick would be Rosie Dot blue ~ Darla fabric by Tanya Whelan (with Tiger on the Flower natural ~ Etsuko Furuya Echino fabric a close second).

I think brightly coloured tights look great on my kids, but unfortunately I don't think I could carry it off!

Jody Pearl said...

Hope I'm not too late
'cause all the fabrics are great
my pick is the 'Spotted Owl in Green Tea'
so fingers crossed I'm one of three!

Jody Pearl said...

Woops, I forgot to say
bright tights for me were yesterday
on those under twelve they're fine
so that's where I'd draw the line!

The Glenns said...

I love the eiffel tower print. I love anything "french," I guess. Which is funny, because I think the bright tights are so very frenchie--and totally cute! You can pull them off, for sure. I think you gotta go with the darker shades though--to keep from feeling too munchkin-y or chubby! Thanks for the giveaway!

Unknown said...

I like the trend. I think it's a nice way to show off great legs, and to pull together an outfit sometimes (or clash wildly if that's what you're going for!).

As far as the fabrics, I fancy the spotted owls. :)

Love all the colors in Birdsong in Pink, by Alexander Henry. As far as tights go . . . maybe if I was still in art school and still 20! Thanks for chance at the giveaway!

tialys said...

Hello and thank-you for this opportunity. I love the Cobweb black ~ Etsuko Furuya - maybe it's because Halloween is coming up!

My time for wearing coloured tights with little dresses has passed, unfortunately, but I have a 16 year old daughter who looks great in them. I think you have to be very young to get away with it but top marks to anybody else who wants to try it - why not?

Have a great weekend.

mamaL said...

I love folklore flowers! It would make a great outfit for a little girl. As far as the tights go...looks great on some, but not on most and I'm in the not on most category.

I love Birdsong in Pink! As far as the tights look goes, I think I'll leave it for the 16 and under crowd. Thanks for the giveaway!
